The Brief
Turn a DIY website and loose visual identity into a brand that felt meaningful, something dog owners would genuinely want to be part of.
What We Did
We built a brand around a modern, minimal aesthetic, pairing clean, contemporary layouts with elegant, traditional typography. A bold, punchy colour palette brings vibrancy without losing a timeless, established feel, while a condensed serif typeface adds a playful, quirky edge. The result is sophisticated, but never too serious. The identity extends across a new website with online booking, alongside a set of illustrations that bring personality to merchandise and everyday brand touchpoints.

In an age of AI-generated everything, we went back to pen, pencil and paper. The wordmark was drawn entirely by hand, taking cues from high-expression condensed serif typography — sharp, sleek and full of character. Every curve was worked out through sketching, not software, giving Hackney Barkers a brand identity that feels human at its core.

Elegant line illustrations, bold and full of personality. They punctuate key messages across the brand and set a tone that's considered without ever taking itself too seriously.

A vivid core green anchors the palette, bold enough to stand out on a busy Hackney high street. It's balanced by softer tones of oak, lilac and soft pink — punchy where it needs to be, timeless where it counts.

A clean, easy-to-navigate website built around fast, seamless booking, letting dog owners choose a service and secure an appointment in just a few taps. A gridded layout gives every page room to breathe, while bold yet subtle typography packs a punch without shouting, and illustrations add small moments of personality along the way.

We paired the hand-drawn wordmark with Awesome Serif High Condensed. Its tall, tightly set letterforms complement the sharp character of the logo, while adding a playful, editorial feel across everything from the website to signage. It has plenty of personality, but remains clear and readable across the smaller details too.
