Project Review: The Five Dials Inn

A ten minute bike ride from our Somerset design studio, will take you to our favourite local, The Five Dials Inn.

A warm, friendly and welcoming pub run by Sarah and Paul, who in 2009 followed their dreams of running their own business, left their jobs in London and bought the pub. A place to find the perfect pint of Otter Ale and hearty plate of delicious food. Set on the edge of the Blackdown Hills close to East Devon and West Dorset, it is an attractive and ideal location for discovering the West Country.

Working food and drink brands, whether it is a producer, farmer, restaurant, bar or hotel, it is always a pleasure - we love it. The act of capturing and sharing the emotion of serving someone a big hearty plate of food is a joy.

Paul and Sarah asked New Century Design to review their website, online presence and social media out put, with an aim to appear more approachable and entice customers from over yonder, in nearing counties Dorset, Devon and Cornwall.

The Five Dials are very proud of their food, and rightly so. With talented chef Simon at the helm, they deliver simple, honest pub food with a contemporary twist. The menu boasts an excellent array of food producers from the Southwest. Everyday, superb fish is delivered from Brixham, their famous Otter beer battered cod with triple cooked chips is perfection and if meat is what you fancy try their steak and red onion burger with crispy bacon and mature cheddar, Somerset cheddar of course.

With food on the mind, we spent the day photographing a lunch and evening service, which delivered distinctive and rich imagery.

We built a smart and responsive website, using a grid layout where the food photography had space to breath and show off. As well as great food, the Five Dials also have a well stocked bar and comfortable guest rooms. We designated an area on the site for each key area of business. Eat, Sleep and Drink.

As well as showcasing food photography, the social media platforms also focused on their suppliers. Using Instagram and Instagram Stories we documented a visit to their suppliers. Developing an engagement with local activity and commerce as well as showing their customers the extent they go to, to create their great menu.
